Hi. I am a violinist, a scholar, and a few other things. Whether I have a violin in my hand or not, I aim to foreground the most creative, surprising, and important musical voices of the present, while continually seeking to reframe and reexamine the works of the musical past.

As a new music specialist, I have performed and premiered countless contemporary works at concerts and festivals across North America and Europe. In my home base of Tkaronto (Toronto), I have appeared with Continuum Contemporary Music, Confluence Concerts, Array Ensemble, and many other contemporary music projects. Outside of Toronto I have appeared as a guest artist performing new music for New Music Edmonton, soundSCAPES (Italy), the Newfound Music Festival (Newfoundland), and others. My current SSHRC-funded postdoctoral research examines novel methodologies for ensuring the future performability of new electroacoustic compositions.

As a baroque violinist, I pursue a creative and vital fusion of academic research and practical performance. My doctoral research at the University of Toronto, supplemented by time as a Visiting Research Student at Cambridge University, examined the unaccompanied violin sonatas of the Bach associate Friedrich Wilhelm Rust (1739–1796), seeking new performance practice information to refine the historically informed performance of music by Bach, Rust, and their colleagues. I have performed on baroque violin across Canada and trained extensively through private study and appearances at the Tafelmusik Summer and Winter institutes, Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute, and Early Music Vancouver String Mentorship Program; in Toronto I have performed with Rezonance Baroque Ensemble, the Theatre of Early Music, and with Tafelmusik performers as an active freelancer.

As a symphony violinist, I have held tenures as concertmaster of Opera on the Avalon and associate concertmaster of the Newfoundland Symphony; I now appear around the GTHA and occasionally further afield as an orchestral player.

Over the course of my career, I have been fortunate to receive project grants, scholarships, and awards, including some highlights such as: the Queen’s Jubilee Medal (Alberta); the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award; the SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, CGS-D, Michael Smith Travel Supplement, and CGS-M; a rare double presentation of the Sir James Lougheed Award of Distinction; grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the arts councils of Ontario, Newfoundland, and Alberta; and the William H. Scheide Research Grant from the American Bach Society.
